Pianist I-Chen Chen has appeared as soloist and in chamber music throughout the U.S. and Taiwan, her native country. Receiving her Bachelor and Master degrees from the Juilliard School, and her PhD degree from New York University, Dr. Chen studied piano with Martin Canin, and Miyoko and Albert Lotto. She has performed in Taipei, Sarasota, Chicago, and Lincoln Center in New York, and her performances have been aired in the Manhattan Classical Opera and Concert Series by Manhattan Neighborhood Network on TV. Dr. Chen garnered first prizes in the Taiwan National Piano Competition, the Concerto Competition at Summit Music Festival, the Steinhardt Concerto Competition in New York University, and was also a prizewinner in the Washington International Piano Competition and the Five Towns Piano Competition. She was a recipient of the M. Munz Scholarship at the Juilliard School, and the award of Outstanding Leadership in Graduate Piano Performance of New York University in 2003. In 2006, she founded the Queens Youth Community Orchestra and serves as its Music Director. Her research interests include 19th century piano literature, especially Frederic Chopin’s piano works. She has taught in the Music and Performing Arts Department at NYU and the Music Performance Program at Columbia University, and is currently on the Piano Faculty at Concordia College and the Turtle Bay Music School. This is Dr. Chen’s second appearance with the Albert Einstein Symphony Orchestra, having been featured previously in Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto No. 4. |
