About the orchestra:
The Albert Einstein Symphony Orchestra, now in its 29th
season, is composed largely of students, housestaff
and faculty of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and its affiliated
hospitals, as well as talented musicians from surrounding communities.
We regularly give four concerts a year, and perform works from the early
Baroque through the 20th Century, from small chamber pieces to larger
Romantic symphonies and concertos. We also have done vocal music,
including recent concert performances of Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by
Jury, Iolanthe, The Gondoliers , The
Mikado, The Yeomen of the Guard, The Pirates of Penzance and Patience.
Featured
soloists with the Orchestra have included both local instrumentalists as well
as noted musicians of international reputation.
About the conductor:
Dr. Stephen Moshman is a visiting Associate Professor of
Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Associate Professor of
Medicine at New York Medical College,
and a full-time Attending Internist in the Department of Medicine at Westchester Medical Center.
Starting his musical life as a violinist, he developed an interest in
conducting and composition early on, and founded and conducted the University of Rochester Baroque Ensemble while
attending college there. He has also composed a variety of orchestral
and chamber works.
The Albert Einstein Symphony Orchestra was organized by
him in 1982.
